Aim

On October 31 we plan to observe both Change Day and What Matters To You initiatives. Woven through the events we will celebrate the theme of “beyond cultures,” with a focus on diversity and how to make the University Hospital of Northern BC (UHNBC) a more welcoming and inclusive facility. We hope to engage patient partners in this committee, so they can assist with program planning for the day, communication and evaluation strategies. There will also be the option for patient partners to present at this event, if they are comfortable doing so.

Level of Engagement

This opportunity is at the level of collaborate on the spectrum of engagement. The promise to you is that the health care partner will work together with you to formulate solutions and incorporate your advice and recommendations into the decisions to the maximum extent possible.

Eligibility

Open to patient partners from Prince George who:
  • Are comfortable working in large groups
  • Have experienced care at UHNBC
If you have a strong interest in this work but have not yet completed a PVN orientation and Volunteer Agreement, are unsure if your experience is a good fit or feel another format of engagement would work better with your availability, please contact Cassy Mitchell.

  • Date and time: in person monthly meetings during business hours (but frequency may change). Meetings are 1.5hr in duration
  • Location: UHNBC, 1475 Edmonton Street, Prince George
  • Commitment: 3 months

Participants in planning for the event include physicians, Northern Health staff, patient partners, Immigrant and Multicultural Services Society (IMMS); Indigenous participants; LGBTQ2S+, Prince George Council of Seniors and mental health/substance use representation. The bottom line is because we’re caring for patients. People who know best are those who are receiving the care so it makes logical sense that we would consult with them about their experiences. By connecting with PVN we have been able to educate our teams about the value of patient partners and how important their perspective is in our services.
