Volunteer Opportunity
Every patient that uses St. Paul’s critical care (intensive care unit, cardiac surgery intensive care unit, cardiac intensive care unit or high acuity unit) wants to have timely, appropriate, effective and safe care. The New St. Paul’s Hospital Critical Care team is looking to reshape how they provide care to their patients and families and are seeking six to eight patient partners to share their experience.

Aim
• Our goal is to improve the care experience for patients and their families who access critical care services.
• The patient partners provide their perspective, based on their lived experience and workflow questions.
Level of Engagement
This opportunity is at the level of collaborate on the spectrum of engagement. The promise to you is that the health care partner will work together with you to formulate solutions and incorporate your advice and recommendations into the decisions to the maximum extent possible.
Eligibility
Open to volunteers from the Vancouver Coastal area who:
• Are comfortable with a computer and virtual meetings
• Want to share their experience in critical care
Logistics
• Number of vacancies: 6-8
• Date/Time: To be determined, in discussion with confirmed patient partners.
• Commitment: Meetings will be once a month, 1.5 hours beginning in October 2022. Seven months to one year.
• Location: Virtual meetings with the option of in-person in the future.
Reimbursement
If travel is required to meetings, preapproved expenses related to travel to in person meetings will be reimbursed according to Providence Health Care Travel policy (including mileage, parking and/or public transit). However, no out-of-pocket expenses are anticipated for this engagement opportunity.
