The Measurement System for Physician Quality Improvement (MSPQI) is seeking a patient partner who is enthusiastic about working with them to improve physician services, thereby benefiting all British Columbians.

Aim
Patient partners will share their experience and ideas as a team member to develop, test and implement recommended quality improvement indicators specifically related to primary care.

Level of Engagement
This opportunity is at the level of collaborate on the spectrum of engagement. The promise to you is that the health care partner will work together with you to formulate solutions and incorporate your advice and recommendations into the decisions to the maximum extent possible.

Eligibility
Open to patient partners across the province who:
Are excited to share their story with a diverse group of physicians and government representatives
Are willing to contribute their knowledge and experience within primary care to the identification of measures of physician quality
Some familiarity with any of the following: research, evaluation, performance measurement or quality improvement is preferred
Are comfortable attending online meetings via Zoom
Preference will be given to patient partners who have experience as a primary care patient, however those with lived experience as a care giver of a family member will also be considered.

The team will meet with you to discuss the opportunity and see if it’s a good fit for everyone prior to welcoming a patient partner onto the Primary Care Quality Measure Group.

Logistics
• Number of vacancies: 1
Date and Time: Monthly meetings for a duration of 2 hours – dates to be determined. In addition, there is sometimes pre-work and other preparation activities between meetings. This could include providing written feedback, or completing a survey.
Location: Online meetings via Zoom
Commitment: Up to 12 months, with the possibility of an extension.

Reimbursement
No out of pocket expenses are anticipated for this engagement opportunity. However, if you meet the eligibility criteria, but have concerns about your ability to participate, please contact Cassy Mitchell cmitchell@bcpsqc.ca to see if support options are available. We are always seeking to better understand and reduce barriers to participation.

However, travel expenses will be reimbursed as per PVN’s reimbursement policy if in person meetings become an option in the future.

Background
The Government of BC, Doctors of BC and BC Health Authorities partnered in 2017 to develop a province-wide system to provide information about the quality of physician care. This program will make data accessible to physicians to support improvement opportunities and provide program level data for informed decision making, ultimately benefiting patients.

The membership of the Quality Measure Groups includes doctors, Health Authority and Ministry of Health representatives and patient partners who will work together to recommend quality indicators. Doctors will use these indicators to make improvements in their practice and provide data for provincial level program planning to improve patient care.

The Primary Care Quality Measure Group has been meeting since 2018 and this position is to replace the role of a previous Patient Partner. The onboarding process with the health care partner will include an orientation to the project and an opportunity to share information about progress that has been made to date.

The role of the patient partner will include the following:
• Attend Quality Measures Group meetings
• Review meeting materials in advance of meeting
• Be willing to share experiences receiving care from a doctor in hospitals, doctor’s offices, clinics or other health care settings relevant to the area of primary care.
Contribute to the prototyping and testing of quality indicators identified by the Quality Measure Group by sharing a patient, family, or caregiver perspective to this process.
• The patient partner will also receive a letter recognizing their contributions as a participant. If any public events relating to the project are organized, patient partners will be invited to participate.
