BC is committed to improving the quality of health care services through ensuring a consistent approach to learning from patient safety events and sharing the results. The BC Patient Safety & Quality Council (BCPSQC) is seeking two patient partners to share their patient safety experience to inform the development of provincial patient safety event review guidelines.

- The working group is developing guidelines to support consistency of the approach to patient safety event reviews across BC by informing local organizations’ policies and procedures
- The patient partner will ensure those guidelines reflect the needs of patients and families through being an active working group member, sharing their insight and contributing to discussions
Level of Engagement
This opportunity is at the level of involve on the spectrum of engagement. The promise to you is that the health care partner will involve patients in planning and design phases to ensure ideas or concerns are considered and reflected in alternatives and recommendations.Eligibility
• Have experience with a patient safety issue, either as a patient, family member or caregiver • Are experienced working in a group setting • Are comfortable sharing their experience and ideas via teleconference If you have a strong interest in this work but have not yet completed a PVN orientation and volunteer agreement, are unsure if your experience is a good fit or feel another format of engagement would work better with your availability, please contact the engagement leader directly.Logistics

- Commitment: Roughly 3-4, one-hour meetings

Through discussions with health organizations across BC, it has been recognized that there would be value in having common expectations for patient safety incident reviews across organizations. The Patient Safety Incident Review Working Group, led by the BCPSQC, has been established to review current incident review approaches and create provincial guidelines based on best practices. There is an opportunity to bring together health care teams and patients across BC to inform the development of provincial guidelines for patient safety incident reviews in a collaborative, where all voices are heard and respected as an important contributor to improving health care in BC.Health Care Partner Contact Information
