Aim

BC Renal is seeking patients and family members to participate in the Patient & Family Engagement Framework Working Group that will guide patient engagement in our provincial committees and key activities. The patient and family partners will help make decisions involving the implementation of the newly released BC Renal Patient & Family Engagement Framework. Members will work together by sharing their perspectives on what matters in patient and family engagement in our provincial committees and key activities. BC Renal will look to you for advice in decision making, developing alternatives, and solutions and include your recommendations into each decision as much as possible.

Level of Engagement

This opportunity is at the level of collaborate on the spectrum of engagement. The promise to you is that the health care partner will work together with you to formulate solutions and incorporate your advice and recommendations into the decisions to the maximum extent possible.

Eligibility

• Patients or family members with lived experience of chronic kidney disease • Experience working and sharing perspectives with diverse groups of people • A strong interest in partnering and working together with health care professionals to advance patient involvement and quality improvement in kidney care.

Logistics

Vacancies: 4 Location, Date, Time and Frequency: • Bi-monthly meetings; 60 minutes each via webinar or teleconference during typical work day hours (9 a.m. to 5 p.m.) - participants residing in Metro Vancouver may choose to attend meetings in person in Vancouver. • One of the meetings will be a half-day in-person meeting in Vancouver. • First meeting will be held in October 2019; term membership for group members will be for one year with possible extension for up to one more year. Commitment: Seven months to a year

Reimbursement

Expenses for travel and accommodation, if needed, will be reimbursed.

Background

Members of the working group will include patient partners, health care professionals from provincial and regional health authorities, as well as staff from BC Renal and the Kidney Foundation of Canada—BC & Yukon Branch. Members will work together by sharing their perspectives on what matters in patient and family engagement in our provincial committees and key activities. We are hoping to recruit diverse voices and welcome patient partners of various ages, genders, kidney disease experiences, and cultural backgrounds from across the province.
