Health Employers Association of BC is looking for two patient partners to be part of the judging team for the 2019 BC Health Care Awards. Our independent panel of judges, who review nominations and select award recipients in 5 categories, is a key strength of our awards program.

Aim

The BC Health Care Awards celebrate excellence and innovation in BC’s health care community by recognizing deserving teams that are improving health care delivery in BC and individuals whose achievements and actions inspire those around them. Adding patient partners to the judging panel will help ensure that the patient perspective is reflected in the selection of award recipients. The patient partner will be asked to review a shortlist of nominations in a specific awards category and then attend a judging event where they will discuss the strengths of the nominations with other judges from BC's academic, business, health care and community organizations, and select our award recipients.

This opportunity is at the level of collaborate on the spectrum of engagement. The promise to you is that the health care partner will work together with you to formulate solutions and incorporate your advice and recommendations into the decisions to the maximum extent possible.

Eligibility

This opportunity is suitable for someone who is able to review detailed nomination forms and use a scoring matrix to evaluate the merits of each nomination and weigh against the others. Judges are asked to participate in discussions about the nominations and share their reasons for selecting their preferred award recipients. The work involves reading a modest amount of material in advance (typically 6-8 nomination forms that are each 2-4 pages) and participating in small (4-5 members) and larger (20 members) group discussions.

Logistics

Vacancies: 2 Date, Time, Location: Monday, April 8, 2019 from 900 - 1400 at the HEABC office (300 - 2889 East 12th Avenue, Vancouver) Commitment: One-time event. There is some advance preparation required before meeting with the the working group of judges in person. Nomination materials are sent to judges a week before the judging event and are asked to review. The time needed before the event to review nominations is approximately 2-3 hours.

Reimbursement

HEABC reimburses for travel, parking and accommodation, if required for judges outside of the Lower Mainland. Lunch and a light breakfast is provided.

Presented by HEABC, the BC Health Care Awards were created in 2007 to celebrate excellence and innovation in BC’s health care community by recognizing deserving teams that are improving health care delivery in BC and individuals whose achievements and actions inspire those around them.
