In September 2017 Island Health will move acute care services from the existing Campbell River Hospital and St. Joseph’s Hospital to new, state of the art hospitals in Campbell River and Comox Valley. The new hospitals will allow health care teams to improve patient care through improved infrastructure, new technology, and the additional expertise of more than 700 new volunteers, staff, and physicians. We would like to include patient representatives in all of our planning and implementation teams as we explore how to improve patient access and care in the new facilities. Representatives will play an important role in helping guide this work on an on-going basis as part of the transition. As a full member of the group/committee they would be expected to participate in all meetings and activities identified by the group/committee to successfully support the transition of services/programs, staff/volunteers/physicians, and patients into the new facilities.Level of Engagement

The promise to you is that the healthcare partner will work with you to ensure that your ideas and concerns are reflected in recommendations and provide feedback on how your input affected the decision.Eligibility
- A strong interest in health care.
- Informed on a broad range of health-related issues.
- A resident of the Campbell River, Comox Valley, or Mount Waddington regions of Vancouver Island.
- Experience in health-centered volunteer/community organizations.
- Computer literacy and ability to work through email, teleconferences and videoconferences.
- Able to use personal experience constructively.
- Be willing to listen to different views and respectful of diverse ideas.
Logistics
There are 16 working groups in process. It is likely that more working groups will be struck over the coming year. As a start, the following groups are seeking patient advisors to work as part of the planning process:- Critical care
- Ambulatory care
- Site administration
- Therapy services
- Emergency
- Outpatient procedures
- Admitting & registration
- Cardiopulmonary diagnostics
- Surgical services
- Learning
- Booking & scheduling
- Change & engagement
- Medical/surgical impatient unities
- Labour, delivery post-partum & paediatrics
- Pharmacy
- Provider transition
- Represent the patient voice on planning and implementation teams
- Work as a full-member together with healthcare teams to explore how to improve patient access and care
- Commit to participate in regularly scheduled meetings and activities to successfully support the transition to new hospital campuses in Comox and Campbell River.
- Each working group is seeking 2 volunteer members
- Vacancies: 32
- At this time, a “Lessons Learned and Next Steps from North Island Hosital Project & Transition” meeting is planned to occur in May/June of 2018 to share outcomes.
Reimbursement
Expenses related to travel (mileage/parking/per diems/accommodation if required) to attend the meetings will be reimbursed in accordance with Island Health’s policy.Health Care Partner Contact Information
