The health of our planet involves working together to find ways to conserve and renew. The health care system has a big part to play in reducing their carbon, emissions and waste. Join us as we come together to discuss what the health care system can do to support planetary health.

Aim
• To inspire efforts to address existing challenges and opportunities to improve the quality of clinical care, while reducing our carbon footprint.
• The patient partners will participate in discussions at the summit day, but also to be an advocate for future work in low carbon, high quality care initiatives.
We will review leading practices in perioperative, respiratory, and renal care as well as explore opportunities to prevent the overuse of treatment and services.
Level of Engagement
This opportunity is at the level of consult on the spectrum of engagement. The promise to you is that the health care partner will listen to and acknowledge your ideas and concerns, and provide feedback on how your input affected the decision.
Eligibility
Open to volunteers from the Vancouver area who:
• Comfortable speaking in front of large groups
• Able to attend the full day in Vancouver on April 12th (0830-1600)
Logistics
• Number of vacancies: 5-8
• Date/Time: Wednesday April 12th, 08:30-16:00.
• Commitment: One time, all day.
• Location: Fairmont Waterfront – 900 Canada Pl, Vancouver, BC.
Reimbursement
Travel expenses will be reimbursed, per the Provincial Health Services Authority Travel Policy.
Background
There is interest from the health care system to focus on low carbon, high quality care initiatives. We are gathering for a productive dialogue to describe the link between low carbon clinical care delivery and high-quality care. We will showcase leading work in many different streams of health care delivery that are including the environmental impacts as a key component of quality care.
Attendance will include multidisciplinary health care professionals (doctors, nurses and allied health) and other system leaders that are doing work to reduce the carbon footprint of clinical care delivery.
Patient partners offer real life and grass roots perspectives and can bring further considerations into our discussions around low carbon clinical care delivery.
