Telling the story of a loved one’s journey with dementia through residential care provides an opportunity to impact those in the community who provide care. The Abbotsford Division of Family Practice wants to partner with a patient volunteer who can provide the human perspective to the often difficult journey of dementia and inspire health care workers to provide better care to their patients.

To increase knowledge and understanding of the dementia journey through residential care through the eyes of a caregiver or family member
Patient volunteers would tell their story to inspire and engage care providers

Eligibility

Communities in the Fraser Health region
Special consideration is given to those that have lived experience with a family or caregiver member that has dementia.

Patients should have previously attended a PVN orientation session. If you have not attended an orientation but are interested please contact Jami directly to see if accommodations may be possible.

Time: 8:45am – 9:30am (patient volunteers are welcome to stay for the whole conference until 2:30pm)
Location: Quality Inn Conference Centre - 36035 North Parallel Road Highway 1, Exit 95 Whatcom Rd, Abbotsford
Commitment:
- 1 Teleconference preparation meeting (To be set)
- Conference Day (Feb 4^th)

Reimbursement

Pre-approved expenses related to travel to in person meetings will be reimbursed according to the Fraser Health Travel policy (including mileage, parking, tolls and/or public transit).

Background

This event will bring together family physicians, specialists, pharmacists, residential Directors of Care, Resident coordinators, senior nurses and home health leaders to learn about and enhance understanding of dementia behavioral changes.
