Background
This is one of three engagement opportunities for Quality Forum 2022. Patient partners can RSVP for all three opportunities but preference will be given to those who haven’t already been selected for one. Read this article to learn more, including their RSVP deadlines.

The Quality Forum is an annual event hosted by the BC Patient Safety & Quality Council that attracts more than 1,250 participants working across the continuum of care from communities through British Columbia. By bringing together patient partners, clinicians, policy and decision makers, senior executive team and board members, quality improvement leaders, researchers and students, we create an opportunity to share knowledge and advance new ideas to improve care across our province.

Each year, we receive hundreds of abstracts through our Call for Abstracts from projects across the province hoping to present their work at the Quality Forum. Abstracts can be submitted on any topic related to providing better care for patients, fostering high-quality health systems or improving conditions for those who work within it. Submitters are asked to indicate whether they would like their abstract to be considered as either an oral (rapid fire) or poster (storyboard) presentation, or both.

Leading up to the event, we are looking for two patient partners to assist in scoring the abstracts that are received. Patient partners will work alongside other health system stakeholders to review abstracts using our online event platform. Each abstract will be blindly scored by two abstract reviewers and the average score, in addition to any comments made by reviewers, are used to rank and prioritize the abstracts that are invited for presentation.

These patient partners will then act as storyboard judges during our annual Storyboard Reception. Judges are assigned a group of storyboards to review and provided with a scoring form to complete. Each storyboard is reviewed by two individuals from among a diverse group of storyboard judges, and the top scoring projects will receive special acknowledgement during the event.

Selected patients partners will be sent a welcome package that outlines the abstract review process in advance of receiving their assigned abstracts. Leading up to the event, additional information will also be sent related to their participation as storyboard judges. There will be a main point of contact for abstract reviewers and storyboard judges, as well as the support of two engagement leaders from the BC Patient Safety & Quality Council who are responsible for QF22.

PVN has really helped us engage with patient partners to improve health services at Northern Health.  It is more and more becoming the norm to include patients in the design, delivery and evaluation of health services.  PVN education and supports, involving patient partners, have enabled us to develop the capacity to include the patient voice to make care better and achieve better health outcomes.
