Committee members, including patient partners, will be invited to draw upon their experiences with the Supported Child Development Program, as well as their knowledge of community childcare to advise on priorities for categories of funding support, quality improvement initiatives, and other topics as required.Level of Engagement
This opportunity is at the level of collaborate on the spectrum of engagement. The promise to you is that the health care partner will work together with you to formulate solutions and incorporate your advice and recommendations into the decisions to the maximum extent possible.Eligibility
- Open to patient partners from Greater Victoria or the Southern Gulf Islands
- Parent/Guardian of a child/youth who has received services from the Supported Child Development Program during the previous 12 months
- Comfortable sharing experiences and feedback in a group
- Able to consider the needs of families in general
- Please note:
- This opportunity is not open to patient partners who are currently employed by Island Health
- The placement process for this opportunity may include an informal interview between the volunteer and the health care partner.
- Applicants must have previously attended a PVN orientation session and completed the Volunteer Agreement. If you have not attended an orientation session but you are interested in this opportunity, please contact Ashley Clark directly to see if accommodations may be possible.
Logistics
- Vacancies: 2
- Date/time: There will be 8 – 10 meetings per year. Typically the meetings are held in the late afternoon but times may be adjusted as necessary.
- Location: Meetings are held at Queen Alexandra Centre for Children, Victoria BC or at an alternate location closer to Victoria General Hospital
- Commitment: One year with the possibility of renewal
Reimbursement
Pre-approved out-of-pocket expenses such as mileage, parking and public transit will be reimbursed by Island Health.Background
The Support Child Development Advisory Committee was developed to provide support, advice, and recommendations to Island Health in reaching the goals of the Supported Child Development Program. The Committee also provides input and recommendations regarding procedures and policies for:- Decision making model for allocation of funding for extra staff support
- Prioritization of waitlists
- Framework to consider exceptions to eligibility criteria
- Reviews and approvals of extra staff funding recommendations when support is provided in a child care setting operated by the Supported Child Development (SCDP) agency
- Communication with child care centres, preschools, and families regarding changes to policy, procedures or funding availability
