The Government of BC, Doctors of BC and BC health authorities partnered in 2017 to develop a province-wide physician quality improvement program. This program will make data accessible to physicians to support improvement opportunities and provide program level data for informed decision making, ultimately benefiting patients and the health system. The role of the patient partner will include the following:
  • Attend Quality Measures Groups meetings;
  • Review meeting materials in advance of meeting;
  • Be willing to share experiences with primary care; and
  • Participate in the selection of physician quality measures.
Once the committee has finalized the set of primary care indicators, the patient partner will receive a progress summary. The patient partner will also receive a letter recognizing their contributions as a participant. If any public events relating to the project are organized, patient partners will be invited to participate. Review the terms of reference for the Primary Care Quality Measures Group.

PVN has really helped us engage with patient partners to improve health services at Northern Health.  It is more and more becoming the norm to include patients in the design, delivery and evaluation of health services.  PVN education and supports, involving patient partners, have enabled us to develop the capacity to include the patient voice to make care better and achieve better health outcomes.
