Opportunity Purpose
Lung health services save lives and improve quality of life, but many people don’t know they are at high risk for getting lung diseases. By becoming an advisor for this study, you will help researchers build better communication materials about lung health that focuses on understanding and honoring traditional knowledge and cultural practices in rural, remote and Indigenous communities in Northern BC.

Ten community advisors will attend and participate in online meetings. There are four meetings scheduled approximately one month apart. The meetings will be designed to understand community perspectives in adapting a risk-communication platform for lung health. We will communicate with partners by email or by phone between meetings and there might be documents sent to read before some meetings.

The question I like to ask health care employees is ‘Who is this for?’ and ‘Do we have the right people at the table?’ As a health care employee, I see how easy it is to fall into doing for, rather than doing with patients. The voices of the patient, family and caregiver are essential to ensure the patient is central to the direction and focus of the work being done.
