Join us to hear real-life stories of health care harm followed by an expert panel discussion. Daphne Kemp worked as a Fall Reduction and Prevention Coordinator for the Saskatoon Area of the Saskatchewan Health Authority, and she is currently working on a research project looking at fall risk screening and assessment. Senior program manager, Anne MacLaurin, advances patient safety here at CPSI. Kathy Kovacs-Burns brings her insight as an active member of Patients for Patient Safety Canada.

Active member since 2006

Misdiagnosis and inappropriate treatment left Kathy with limitations she lives with every day. She joined Patients for Patient Safety Canada to become an advocate for safety improvement and to educate healthcare professionals and other patients and families on best practices to achieve this. Kathy enjoys collaborating to “talk the language of patient safety”.

Senior Program Manager

Anne is a Senior Program Manager for the Canadian Patient Safety Institute.  She is responsible for advancing patient safety through supporting national and regional partnerships and coordinating initiatives such as CPSI’s infection prevention and control national strategy and its national measurement system; Patient Safety Metrics.

Medical Social Worker

Daphne was the Fall Reduction and Injury Prevention Coordinator for the Saskatoon Area of the Saskatchewan Health Authority for 9 years. She currently works as a Medical Social Worker on a transitional Care unit with a focus on geriatrics. She continues her work in fall prevention as Co PI on a Patient Orientated research project looking at fall risk screening and assessment in Saskatchewan which includes doing focus groups to get a “lived experience” on falls and the healthcare system. Daphne is the Co-Chair of the upcoming National Fall prevention Conference in June.
