Spring CEANing 2017 – Storytelling for the Health of It

  • This event has passed.

April 22, 2017 @ 9:30 am - 2:30 pm

Free

Join us for this opportunity to learn how the stories of patient, clients, residents and families can change the way health care is provided. Through stories we can learn how to improve our system of care, how to improve patient safety as well as the quality of care.

Community Engagement Advisory Network (CEAN)  members and VCH staff and leaders will come together and share their experiences of how stories can change the practice of health care and we will learn the skill of telling our story and importance of storytelling to effect change. CEAN forums are opportunities for dialogue between VCH leadership and public advisors that support the commitment to patient and public engagement within VCH.

Storytelling to change health care

Stories are our primary method of communicating and are a proven way to share any idea or concept that is interesting, memorable and motivating. It is stories that move us to change and stories can benefit those who receive care as well as those who provide it.

When you join us on April 22nd you will learn about the power of effective storytelling, how to tell your story effectively, how to hear a story and how stories can contribute to patient safety and quality of care every day. Throughout the day we will be seeking your input on telling the VCH story. Help us to craft what we want tell people about health care and our commitment to safe quality care. Together we will plan for the spread and practice of storytelling as a tool for change in VCH.

Where those of us in the room may have debated policy or wording, patient voices made sure patients were top of mind. And as a result, significant improvements were made to simplify something that was otherwise complex. Patient voices at the table bring us back to reality in terms of what we are trying to achieve.
