All physicians and surgeons who practise medicine in the province must be registrants of the College of Physicians and Surgeons of BC (the College).

The College’s main responsibility is to protect the safety of patients by ensuring registrants practise medicine to the highest standards.

The College is currently in the process of updating a practice standard that outlines when it is acceptable for a registrant to advertise and promote their services to the public, and the rules they must follow when doing so.

The College is seeking input to learn about the experiences and concerns patients may have in relation to a physician or surgeon’s advertising to the public.

This feedback will help inform the College’s practice standard and may identify a need for supplementary resources for the public.

PVN has really helped us engage with patient partners to improve health services at Northern Health.  It is more and more becoming the norm to include patients in the design, delivery and evaluation of health services.  PVN education and supports, involving patient partners, have enabled us to develop the capacity to include the patient voice to make care better and achieve better health outcomes.
