Public Survey: Culturally Safe Medical Care for Indigenous Patients

Seeking public feedback on the draft Cultural Safety, Cultural Humility and Anti-racism practice standard’s core concepts.

All physicians and surgeons who practise medicine in the province must be registrants of the College of Physicians and Surgeons of BC (the College). The College’s main responsibility is to protect patients by ensuring physicians and surgeons practise medicine to the highest standards. To fulfil this role, the College, in collaboration with the BC College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM), has drafted a new Indigenous Cultural Safety, Cultural Humility and Anti-racism practice standard. The College’s new standard is intended to clearly communicate its expectations of physicians and surgeons in providing safe and appropriate care to Indigenous patients. The College will also be developing a patient resource which will help communicate key principles to the public.

All members of the public are encouraged to share their feedback on the draft standard’s core concepts, especially those who identify as Indigenous, by completing the survey below before November 29, 2021.
