“What Matters to You?” Twitter Chat

June 9, 2021 @ 11:30 am - 12:30 pm

From new, virtual health care services to the findings of the In Plain Sight report, the past year has provided many examples of why person- and family-centred care is so important. “What Matters to You?” aims to encourage meaningful conversations between patients, caregivers, families and their health care providers. When a health care provider starts a conversation by asking what really matters to the person they are caring for, it helps them to build trust, develop empathy and understand their patients.

In celebration of International “What Matters to You?” Day, we’re hosting a Twitter Chat on Wednesday June 9 at 11:30 AM PT and will be diving into #WMTY with the following questions:

Q1. Why does “What matters to you?” matter to YOU? If you’re a care provider, do you ask #WMTY? If you’re a patient, have you been asked #WMTY? How did it go? How does it feel? What did you learn? #WMTYBC

Q2. For many people, virtual care (providing or receiving care via phone or videoconference) was a new reality last year. What are some opportunities to ask/share “What matters to you?” when connecting via virtual care appointments? #WMTYBC

Q3. What can be done to embed the “What matters to you?”  question into every care interaction, every day? How can we remind/encourage health care providers to ask “What matters to you?” in fast paced environments? #WMTYBC

Q4. Sometimes asking “What matters to you?” isn’t quite the right phrase for the moment. What are some effective variations? #WMTYBC

Q5. What is one commitment you can make today to promote the practice of asking “What matters to you?” Be creative! #WMTYBC
