What It Means to Be a Culturally Safe Patient Partner – Patient Voices Network Learning Series

Posted

The PVN Learning Series is created for Patient Voices Network members. The PVN Learning Series is created for Patient Voices Network members and shaped by members’ input from recent focus groups and surveys. The goal of the sessions is to support the growth of PVN patient partners by reducing barriers, strengthening capabilities and creating more opportunities to connect, learn and contribute to meaningful change in BC’s health care system with increased skills and confidence.

What It Means to Be a Culturally Safe Patient Partner
This session will connect cultural safety and humility practices to Indigenous rights and health care system commitments. Together, we will reflect on how patient partners – both Indigenous and non-Indigenous – can share their stories in ways that are culturally safe, while also making space for Indigenous voices. The session will offer practical tools to support meaningful, respectful participation in patient engagement.

It has been so rewarding to go from an idea to working with such a great group of dedicated people from so many different organizations towards a very fun and rewarding project. Several extremely engaged PVN members expressed interest in being part of piloting a patient virtual care peer support system. I am confident that this is the beginning of many more exciting collaborations!
