Quality Café: Exploring Patient Activation, Engagement and Experience
On October 17, 2018, the BC Patient Safety & Quality Council held a Quality Café learning session on patient engagement concepts. Cathy Almost, an Engagement Leader who supports PVN, and Claire Snyman, a PVN Patient Partner, describe the differences between these three concepts while highlighting how each is a vital part of ensuring a person- and family-centred health care system.

- Define “patient activation,” “patient engagement” and “patient experience” as unique concepts.
- Illustrate how patient activation, engagement and experience interact with one another to contribute to a health system that is person- and family-centred.
