Because your voice matters.

Start Here

We connect patients, family members and caregivers with projects led by teams within health authorities, health organizations and non-profits that seek to include patients’ perspectives. PVN provides you with access to:

  • A basic orientation to the role of a patient partner and how PVN works
  • Resources and training opportunities
  • Engagement opportunities that match your experience and interests

PVN helps you to be confident and ready to share your experiences to improve BC’s health care system

Become a Patient Partner

Please allow at least 20 minutes to complete all required steps to sign-up as a patient partner:

  1. Fill out our sign-up form. This helps you to be connected to health care teams who are seeking patients to engage in their work.
  2. Watch our 15 minute orientation video.
  3. Sign our Patient Partner Service User Agreement, which confirms the responsibilities you accept by joining PVN.
  4. Fill out an RSVP form, to confirm your interest in an engagement opportunity. Health care partners contact you to follow up on your interest.

Once you’ve completed these steps, you’re ready to go!

Tools/Resources

There is a wealth of information to support your involvement in PVN. In the Resource Section, you can find:

  • On-boarding: what it means to be a patient partner and how PVN works.
  • Preparation: how to get involved and be successful in engagement opportunities.
  • RSVP process: support for your recruitment and placement into engagement opportunities.
  • Skill-building: learn about health care improvement and patient engagement.

Apply for Opportunities

Every Tuesday we’ll email you a list of engagement opportunities. When you spot an opportunity that matches your eligibility, interests and availability, fill out the RSVP form.

The RSVP goes to the health care partner so that they can identify the patient partner that best fits the opportunity’s goals.

Participate

Health care partners will review your RSVP. If you’re selected for an opportunity, they will contact you to provide you with additional details. You can also ask them questions and seek clarification. This chart highlights what you can expect from the patient partner role.

Give Feedback

Health care partners are seeking your input on their engagement opportunities. How they consider your input in the decisions they make depends on the opportunity. Each opportunity is unique, and the role of the patient partner is part of the invitation. If you need clarification on your role before committing, please ask the health care partner.

Talking often about the patient partner role and expectations helps create clarity for everyone involved. You may find that the role evolves. That’s OK. The goal is for you to feel comfortable working with the health care team and to ask questions of the health care partner when you are not sure.

I have learned so much about innovation and capacity building by being part of PVN. I signed up to build my leadership skills, however, I experience benefits for myself, my community and Indigenous peoples throughout the province. I understand more about the complexities and opportunities required to improve health care.
