How can we best prevent off-road vehicle injury in Northern BC? User Perspectives

Background
Background documents will be provided to the participant including:
• The research proposal
• The draft survey
• Brief overviews of off-road vehicle injury data and risk and protective factors
• Any other documents the participant would find helpful to feel prepared.

The participant can be provided training to participate in meetings using Microsoft-Teams, or Zoom, if needed.

Additional eligibility criteria:
The participant must have experience using one or more kind of off-road vehicle (i.e., ATV/quad, side-by-side, utility vehicle, dirt bike or motocross bike).    Ideally the participant will have experience with more than one type of off-road vehicle, and will have experience over two years or more.
• Ability to read and understand English.
• Comfortable with computers and technology.
• Comfortable and able to provide written and verbal feedback on questions and wording for a public survey.

Experience having an injury using an off-road vehicle is not required.

Opportunity Purpose
We need to better understand how off-road vehicles are being used in Northern BC (e.g., ATVs/quads, dirt bikes, motocross bikes, utility vehicles, and side-by-sides). We are seeking ways to prevent off-road vehicle injury/death. We will conduct a survey including questions such as:
• Do you or your family members ride off-road?
• Where do you ride, and how often?
• Have you been injured when riding?
• What ideas do you have to make riding safer?

Details
After volunteers express interest, our team will reach out to determine eligibility and share more details on next steps.
1. The selected participant will receive an orientation to the research project and purpose.
2. A draft of the survey will be shared by e-mail for review and feedback.
3. The participant will join a 2-hour online meeting to discuss their feedback with members of the research team.
4. The survey will be updated and two weeks later and the participant will join a second 2-hour to review and finalize the changes.
The participant will be asked to help ensure questions are clear and relevant to off-road vehicle users in Northern BC.
