Join the Patient Engagement in Research (PEiR) Committee! Help Shape the Future of Health Research in Interior BC

Opportunity Purpose
The PEiR Committee works in partnership with the BC SUPPORT Unit Interior Centre to promote, assist, and advance meaningful patient-oriented research (POR) within the Interior region. Together, we aim to improve health services and the well-being of individuals and communities across the Interior region by centering lived experience in research.

Details
As a PEiR Committee member, you will:
• Contribute your lived or living experience with health issues, caregiving, or using health services.
• Attend and actively participate in monthly 1hr virtual meetings.
• Read background materials and prepare for discussions.
• Collaborate with patient-partners, researchers, health staff, and other interest-holders.
• Help set research priorities, identify gaps, co-create solutions, and promote patient engagement in your community.
You will also:
• Receive orientation and ongoing mentorship.
• Be offered annual honorarium to recognize time and commitment.
• Have travel and accommodation expenses reimbursed (if applicable).

Thompson – Okanagan / Kootenay / Cariboo

Eligibility
Age: 16 Years – 100 Years Old

Background
Our Structure:
• We are a committee made up of 7-9 Patient Partners volunteers and 2 BC SUPPORT Unit Interior Centre staff members.
• One Patient Partner serves as the Committee Chair (a paid leadership role).
• Meetings are consensus-based, supportive, and collaborative.
• Our approach is guided by the CIHR Patient Engagement Framework, which is built on four core principles: Inclusiveness; Support; Mutual Respect; and Co-Building.

Additional eligibility criteria:
We’re seeking 3-5 people who:
• Live in the Interior region of BC full-time.
• Have an interest in health care and research.
• Are ready to share their experiences to help shape better health outcomes.
• Reflect a diversity of backgrounds, including age, gender, cultural heritage, geography, and types of health conditions (visible, invisible, acquired, or congenital).

We welcome and place priority for voices from First Nations, Métis, and Inuit communities, rural and remote residents, caregivers, youth, seniors, and people from underserved communities.
