Opportunity Purpose
While developing the pre-surgical stop smoking (cessation) bundle as the intervention in our pilot randomized controlled trial, it became apparent that patient input would be valuable to this process. Someone who has previously wanted to quit, tried to quit smoking or has been successful in quitting could help design the materials from the patient’s perspective.

What’s Involved
We would like to involve the patient partner in helping to develop the smoking cessation bundle. Specifically, we need help around the wording of the advice given during the pre-admission clinic telephone call or whenever the smoking cessation advice is given. Review of selected brochures and video will also be helpful.

I was thrilled to discover the Patient Voices Network, where the array of places to be the voice of a patient is vast and incredibly interesting. Besides my ongoing “gig” with the BC Emergency Medicine Network, I have enjoyed being involved in several one-off initiatives. I love working with professionals who genuinely value the perspectives of their patient partners.
