Opportunity Purpose
Following a recent survey, we identified that health care providers would appreciate having tools to help communicate with their patients around the rationale for use of thyroid testing. To address this effectively, we invite you to co-develop with us a patient-facing brochure that will help provide clear and concise information about thyroid testing procedures, potential outcomes, and possible implications.

Background
Laboratory test overuse (LTO) has been associated with significant costs and can result in false positive test results. Consequently, this can lead to unnecessary downstream testing, sleep disruption, and patient discomfort. Data from BC shows that thyroid testing has increased in the past decade, resulting in more ambiguous testing results. To reduce testing, we propose a de-implementation strategy involving active knowledge translation through system re-design, the creation of knowledge exchange tools for clinicians tailored to identified barriers and facilitators of optimal laboratory testing, and educational tools to engage patients in shared decision-making regarding thyroid testing.

Details
If you choose to join the team as a patient partner, your insights and perspectives will be used to help develop co-design a patient-facing brochure for health care practitioners and patient alike. The co-design process will involve collaborating with a small group of researchers, patient partners and healthcare professionals. Your role as a patient partner will include sharing your experiences, providing feedback on the content and design of the brochure, and ensuring that it is patient-friendly and easy to understand.
