We are looking for up to 3 patient partners to join us in this work.

“What Matters to You?” (WMTY) is an international movement that encourages meaningful conversations in health care. The question is simple and powerful. The goal is to move away from talking about “what is the matter with you?”. Instead, health care providers are encouraged to ask “what really matters most?” to the people they serve and their essential care partners.

For almost a decade, Fraser Health staff have been asking, listening and doing what matters to improve the experience of care.

A diverse community of practice has been established to support collaboration, learning and the advancement of WMTY initiatives.

Having a “What Matters to You?” conversation is part of a person-centred approach to care.

Meetings are on the third Wednesday of each month from 10:30am to 11:20am. Any changes to the day and times will be to optimize participation.

The question I like to ask health care employees is ‘Who is this for?’ and ‘Do we have the right people at the table?’ As a health care employee, I see how easy it is to fall into doing for, rather than doing with patients. The voices of the patient, family and caregiver are essential to ensure the patient is central to the direction and focus of the work being done.
