This project is part of the 2025 Providence Health Care (PHC) Research Challenge, which supports point-of-care staff to lead practice-based research with mentorship and funding. Funding confirmation is expected by July 2025.
Interprofessional collaboration involves health professionals from different disciplines working together with patients and families to deliver high-quality care. According to the Canadian Interprofessional Health Collaborative (2024), this collaboration is strengthened through interprofessional education (IPE) – learning with, from and about each other to foster mutual understanding and effective teamwork. IPE helps healthcare teams better understand each other’s roles, responsibilities and perspectives, which is essential for reducing communication gaps and improving patient care.
We are exploring how Instagram can serve as a platform for IPE to support better collaboration among healthcare professional in the Acute Care Medicine Program at St. Paul’s Hospital. Our goal is to use education to bridge communication gaps, enhance teamwork, and ultimately improve the experiences of patients and families.
The time commitment will be approximately 1–2 hours per month from June 2025 to June 2026. Participation includes virtual Teams meetings and/or email communication. There is flexibility in the commitment of time. An honorarium will be provided to thank you for your time and contributions.
Role of Patient Partner
Share your experience: Reflect on your time as a patient or caregiver in an inpatient medicine ward. We are especially interested in how communication and collaboration among your care team affected your experience – what made your experience feel supported, and where you could see areas of improvement.
Review educational content: Help us ensure Instagram posts are clear and meaningful from a patient and family’s point of view.
If you are interested in becoming a patient partner for this project, please RSVP.
