Unattached patients on long-term prescribed opioids for non-cancer chronic pain present to Kelowna Urgent & Primary Care Centre (UPCC) requesting prescription refills. Currently there is a gap in service for this patient population.

Our project goal is to provide a safe, structured, compassionate approach for unattached patients on long term prescribed opioids for non cancer pain, to be assessed and treated at Kelowna Urgent & Primary Care Centre (UPCC).
The introduction of structure and process will give family doctors and nurse practitioners a confident framework to work within. With the implementation of this structure and process, we aim to improve the consistency of care provided.

The engagement opportunity will involve:
– Sharing perspectives on proposed changes and provide feedback on ideas we hope to implement such as Patient-Clinician Agreements and allied-health assessments.

– Feedback and input on a patient-clinician agreement that outlines care expectations in a way that is compassionate and trauma-informed.

– Contribute ideas to improve the patient workflow, ensuring it meets patient needs in a seamless and respectful manner.

It’s really hard to make changes in health care. When a PVN patient partner says, ‘This is important to us’ it keeps us grounded on why a change is needed and keeps us motivated to keep going on projects.
