As part of our case-based curriculum, we are building a Persona library (of fictional characters) based on the real-life experiences of diverse community members in the Fraser-Salish region.
We’re looking for a variety of identities and experiences in our curriculum, and this project starts with 10 people (e.g., varied age, ethnicity, gender, sexuality, health concerns, with and without a primary care provider) to help us build a respectful and realistic patient group.
The purpose of this engagement is to build a patient persona library; a persona library in medical schools provides a collection of realistic, representative patient profiles that support consistent, equitable learning across the curriculum. It helps students develop clinical reasoning, communication, and cultural competency by exposing them to diverse patient backgrounds and health conditions. These personas are used in case-based learning, simulations, and assessments to mirror real-world clinical experiences. Overall, the library ensures learners gain exposure to the full spectrum of patient care reflective of the communities they will serve.
