Improving the care of people with severe mental health issues and addictions is vital to a healthy British Columbia. BC Mental Health & Addictions is transforming the way they support people with lived experience, and their family members, across BC. The Stepping Stones Project Team is seeking people to join their working group as they plan support the development of client-centered programming and site development for their new residential facility, slated for opening on the Riverview grounds in 2020.

Lead Organization or Department

Provincial Health Services Authority – Centre for Mental Health & Addictions, Burnaby

Aim

Patient partners will be a standing member of the Stepping Stones Working Group, responsible for advising on the development of clinical, programming and facilities development, ensuring a client-centered approach throughout this project.

Level of Engagement

This opportunity is at the level of involve on the spectrum of engagement. The promise to you is that the health care partner will involve patients in planning and design phases to ensure ideas or concerns are considered and reflected in alternatives and recommendations.

Eligibility

Patient partners in British Columbia who have experience with residential level care for mental health and addictions, either as a family member or a person with lived experience. If you have a strong interest in this work but have not yet completed a PVN orientation and volunteer agreement, are unsure if your experience is a good fit or feel another format of engagement would work better with your availability, please contact Jami Brown directly to see if accommodations may be possible

Logistics

Vacancies:  7 Date and Time:  Will be scheduled based on availability of patient partners with the preference of Wednesday Location:  Burnaby Mental Health & Addictions or, by teleconference province wide Commitment:  1.5 hours, once per month, one-year term, in person or via teleconference

Reimbursement

Parking expenses will be reimbursed.

Background

Burnaby Centre for Mental Health and Addiction (BCMHA), a provincial service for individuals with severe mental health and addiction, will be transferring service to the Centre for Mental Health and Addiction (Official name pending) in 2020 on the Riverview Lands. In preparation for the new centre in 2020, BCMHA will be undergoing multiple projects.
