The Royal Inland Hospital is looking to:

Develop and implement a comprehensive, site-wide, surge protocol, that enhances patient access and efficiency, ensures decision transparency and consistency, establishes a clear escalation pathway, optimizes in-care evaluation for increased patient volume, and mitigates potential financial impact.

Part of this planning will be the utilization of transition (aka hallway) spaces for patients. While the team recognizes that this is not ideal, we want to ensure that our patients are informed about the reasons they may be admitted to a “transition bed” and that their safety is still top priority.

We are looking to develop patient communication to share with patients/families upon admission. We want to work with a patient partner to ensure that the information is understandable, addresses patient concerns, is transparent, culturally sensitive and appropriate for all patient populations.

The bottom line is because we’re caring for patients. People who know best are those who are receiving the care so it makes logical sense that we would consult with them about their experiences. By connecting with PVN we have been able to educate our teams about the value of patient partners and how important their perspective is in our services.
