Opportunities for Involvement
We are seeking patient/family partner input on our working group to inform the development of a regional (Island wide) dysphagia strategy. Dysphagia is a significant yet often overlooked health issue affecting adults admitted to acute and critical care, adults living in the community and adults in long-term care. The absence of a targeted regional strategy to address dysphagia in these at-risk populations is significantly impacting health outcomes. The goals of the initiative and of the working group is to develop resources, education, support documents and policy documents to improve access to dysphagia management services that is equitable across the Island Health region. The initiative will be ongoing for at least a year but likely longer.

I have learned so much about innovation and capacity building by being part of PVN. I signed up to build my leadership skills, however, I experience benefits for myself, my community and Indigenous peoples throughout the province. I understand more about the complexities and opportunities required to improve health care.
