Commitment: Long-term

Connection method: Virtual

Open to National Region, Patient partners across BC

The PressureSmart project aims to improve the prevention, early detection, and healing of pressure injuries (PIs) through innovative technology. This initiative seeks to enhance patient care by creating tools that are practical, minimally invasive, and user-friendly. By including patient partners in the design process, we ensure the tools meet the real needs of those impacted by PIs, making them more effective and patient-centered.

Patient engagement is crucial to this initiative, as it provides firsthand insights that will shape the design, usability, and implementation of the technology, ensuring it is comfortable and beneficial for patients and caregivers alike.

Logistics:

Engagement will primarily take place through monthly virtual meetings (1–2 hours each) over 12–18 months.
All meetings will be held online to allow for flexible participation from any location.
Honoraria will be provided to patient partners as compensation for their time and contributions.

This collaborative approach ensures that the final solutions address the unique challenges and priorities of patients and their caregivers.

PVN has really helped us engage with patient partners to improve health services at Northern Health.  It is more and more becoming the norm to include patients in the design, delivery and evaluation of health services.  PVN education and supports, involving patient partners, have enabled us to develop the capacity to include the patient voice to make care better and achieve better health outcomes.
