PHC/ VCH PQI Program aims to enhance Quality Improvement (QI) capacity, build connections, and create a continuous improvement culture to transform our local health system. Patient partners will share their lived or living experience as a patient or family member by partnering with physicians who have their own unique quality improvement projects (listed below). Patient partners are encouraged to indicate any of the projects that they have an interest in.

The 7 different Physician Quality Improvement Project topics include:
• Improve the vaginal birth rate in patients who are 1st time delivery of one fetus and undergoing induction of labor
• Decrease the inpatient length of stay for all patients at VGH with gallbladder disease
• Improve the patient experience during a glaucoma consult, specifically discussion around Selective Laser Trabeculoplasty (SLT)
• Decrease the usage of unneeded perioperative narcotic pain medications for post-transplant liver patient
• Increase the successful rate of weaning of VA-ECMO
• improve the experience of patients undergoing Whipple procedure by reducing their length of stay
• To improve indigenous patient experience at May’s Place (Palliative Services)

These engagement opportunities will be at either the level of consult, involve, or collaborate levels, depending on the project.

Depending on the project, the physician leading the project will lead a:
• One-to-one interview, or
• Several project meetings, or
• A single focus group.

This opportunity is at the level of Collaborate on the IAP2 Spectrum of Public Participation.

Eligibility

  • Willing & comfortable to share health care experiences in a group setting
  • Specific health care experiences [details below]
  • Previous committee/working group experience
  • Have access to technology and the internet to participate in the engagement opportunity
  • Comfortable using technology to attend online/virtual meetings
  • An interest in improving health care services
  • The time to participate in the engagement opportunity
  • Preference will be given to Patients with lived/ living experience to the projects that you are interested in (e.g. indigenous patient / caretaker with palliative service experience)
Patient Partners ARE required to be PVN members to participate in this engagement opportunity.
