In collaboration with BC health authorities, Physician Quality Improvement (PQI), a flagship initiative of the Specialist Services Committee, works to enhance physician capacity in quality improvement by providing training and hands-on experience through action learning projects, ultimately promoting a culture of learning, openness, and dedication to improving the health care system. Each health authority is provided a budget to implement a program that supports this vision, focused on supports for physicians to engage in quality improvement activities. Resources include staff supports (coaching, data access, administrative support), access to training/education, as well as reimbursement for the physicians to take part in the improvement activity.
In the spirit of collaboration, the health authority works closely with the Specialist Services Committee members, the physicians from our facilities, and patients to provide the overall direction (within the guidelines permitted by the Specialist Services Committee) for the program within PHSA. We are looking for a patient to join this governance Committee that meets approx. 6 times per year in the early evening as a voting member.
The group generally meets every second month on Tuesdays between 4:00pm-6:30pm virtually. The group tries to have two in-person meetings that are a bit longer and/or include some form of education. For any in-person events, travel expenses and meals are covered. This a volunteer opportunity; however, we fund patient partners with education opportunities and/or opportunities to attend conferences. The patient will also have access to a community of patient partners with similar roles all over the province via regular virtual connections.
