Background

The goal of the Board Training Program for Governance of Quality and Safety is to increase the overall knowledge and skills of board members with regards to governing the quality and safety of health services being delivered by their organization. This program will be provided through an interactive one-day session, with a goal of ensuring a common base of knowledge and skills in governing quality and safety of care throughout the province. The initial iterations will focus on delivering the program to all existing health authority board members through a series of regional workshops. By the end of the training, the objectives are for attendees to be able to:
  1. Articulate their responsibilities as board members of a health service delivery organization for the quality of care provided;
  2. Have confidence in assessing and strategically questioning the performance of the organization;
  3. Comprehend their role in shaping the culture of the organization and supporting improvement; and
  4. Recognize the necessity of and strategies for engaging with patients and families.

The Patient Voices Network has connected me to a community with the same drive to bring person- and family-centred care to the forefront. I am grateful for all opportunities I have been a part of thanks to PVN, which positively impacts patients like my sister and their caregivers. No matter how small, all patient engagement will help shape the future of health care and that I can stand behind
