Aim
The Board Quality Committee for the Interior Health (IH) will meet on October 5th to discuss its mandate to ensure excellent quality of patient, client, and resident care. We would like to hear a health story from a patient partner to provide insight on his/her/their health journey for the purpose of better understanding our strengths or opportunities for improvement related to supporting diversity and inclusion in IH services throughout the region. As part of your presentation, we would welcome recommendations or suggestions for how we could better support others in the future. The presentation can describe a positive or negative experience (or both), and it is hoped that the patient partners will share their honest and open experiences.

Level of Engagement
This opportunity is at the level of consult on the spectrum of engagement. The promise to you is that the health care partner will listen to and acknowledge your ideas and concerns, and provide feedback on how your input affected the decision.

Eligibility
• Comfort telling your story.
• Willingness to write out your story to be ready to share.
• Please note:
– The placement process for this opportunity may include an informal conversation between the volunteer and the health care partner.

Logistics
• Number of patients: 1
• Date and Time: Tuesday, Oct 5th, 30 minutes between 8:30 – noon.
• Location: Virtually
• Commitment: One time

Reimbursement
No out of pocket expenses are anticipated for this engagement opportunity. However, if you meet the eligibility criteria, but have concerns about your ability to participate, please contact Carol Stathers at cstathers@bcpsqc.ca to see if support options are available. We are always seeking to better understand and reduce barriers to participation.

Background
The Board Quality Committee will assist the Board of Directors to ensure that the quality of patient, client and resident care meets an acceptable standard throughout the Interior Health Authority. The Board Quality Committee seeks feedback on the quality of care in Interior Health in a number of different ways including by speaking directly with patients and families.

Your presentation can describe a positive or negative experience (or both), and it is hoped that the patient partners will share their honest and open experiences.

Typically you would share your story for the first 10-15 minutes and then have an open discussion with the members of the Board Quality Committee. A member of the Quality and Patient Safety team will follow-up with you after the meeting to answer any additional questions you may have.
