Purpose and Goals of the Engagement
We are committed to ensuring that patients’ voices play a central role in shaping the delivery and quality of primary care services across Island Health. As valued members of their own care teams, patient partners bring essential lived and living experiences that help inform key decisions. Through this engagement, patient partners will provide input on policies, quality improvement projects, and the overall state of primary care at Island Health, helping to shape initiatives to truly meet patient needs.

Opportunities for Involvement
We are seeking four patient partners to serve as voting members:
• Two seats on the Clinical Excellence Committee (CEC): Focuses on clinical service planning, policy development, and quality improvement projects.
 – Time commitment: 2.5–3 hours per month (including preparation)
• Two seats on the Operational Excellence Committee (OEC): Focuses on implementing standards across the region, with emphasis on resourcing, feasibility, and safety.
– Time commitment: 2.5–3 hours per month (including preparation)

Patient partners will participate on one committee only (CEC or OEC).

The bottom line is because we’re caring for patients. People who know best are those who are receiving the care so it makes logical sense that we would consult with them about their experiences. By connecting with PVN we have been able to educate our teams about the value of patient partners and how important their perspective is in our services.
