BackgroundThe Rural Surgical and Obstetric Network (RSON) funding initiative is a 5 year program. The network approach seeks improved coordination and collaboration among rural and regional facilities and professionals. There are 5 "pillars" of work to this initiative. One of the "pillars" of work - the Evaluation Pillar - engages patients through research surveys and interviews to evaluate the experiences of patients in rural communities. This higher level engagement is in place to help evaluate the impact of the RSON funding on the surgical and obstetric service delivery. Our local team in Golden would like to engage the community on a local project level to 1) inform the community about the different efforts being made to sustain a local surgical and obstetric program; and 2) gain an appreciation of what patients think of what is happening, how we are approaching program sustainability and how, or with what, the community might be more involved. This is a conversation. There are no identified requirements. Patients do not have to have had a surgery or a child in Golden or in the region, and they do not have to come to the meeting with any suggestions or feedback. Information gained from patient partners will help inform the project and how the project communicates with the community and will in no way have any impact on their access to care. Information will be shared from this conversation to the RSON Local Working Group only as relevant to informing the work of the project.
