KBRH is looking for public partners who want to help improve the health care experience in our community.

By joining the new KBRH Person & Family Advisory Council (PFAC), you can share your voice and make a real difference in how care is delivered in your local community.

The PFAC brings together volunteer public partners with hospital and department leaders, physicians, and healthcare team members. Together, the council discusses issues that affect patient care and the patient experience at your local hospital.

Council members use their personal experiences, along with publicly available data, to guide projects and improvements. Members may lead discussions, offer recommendations, and suggest changes that support better care for people in the Kootenay Boundary area.

We welcome public partners from diverse cultural and educational backgrounds, reflecting the communities served by KBRH.

Since the PFAC is new, you can be among its first members. Our goal is to have equal numbers of public and Interior Health representatives. Meeting dates/times have not been determined but they will likely occur quarterly.

Public partners may be asked to review materials such as minutes or presentations before meetings and are encouraged to bring forward topics for discussion. Public partners will be supported through their engagement and do not require a background in healthcare to participate.

Where those of us in the room may have debated policy or wording, patient voices made sure patients were top of mind. And as a result, significant improvements were made to simplify something that was otherwise complex. Patient voices at the table bring us back to reality in terms of what we are trying to achieve.
