Aim

The Nanaimo Workplace Culture Committee was formed to drive change and support action towards the creation of a workplace culture at Nanaimo and Oceanside Community Health Services and NGRH that encourages a positive and safe experience for the entire care team. This experience includes all forms of physical and psychological safety for each individual who works within the health system, including clinical and non-clinical employees, physicians, students, volunteers and contracted providers. Ongoing support for this workplace culture will be achieved through the creation of inclusive structures, processes, policies, roles and organizational practices. NWCC has two primary functions: To develop and lead engagement activities approved by the sponsors to support:
  • Staff wellness
  • Staff being valued
  • Meeting the needs of staff, patients and of the organization.
To gather feedback for site leadership and the Nanaimo -Oceanside Quality Council on conditions, decisions, and activities affecting workplace culture as follows:
  • Informal feedback
  • Formal feedback (such as surveys)
  • Mechanism to collect and track the feedback

Level of Engagement

This opportunity is at the level of collaborate on the spectrum of engagement. The promise to you is that the research partner will work together with you to formulate solutions and incorporate your advice and recommendations into the decisions to the maximum extent possible.

Eligibility

This invitation is being extended to patient partners in Nanaimo or Oceanside community areas who have a comfort with speaking to and working within large groups.

Logistics

  • Vacancies: 1-2
  • In-person Working Group
  • Date/Time: 3rd Wednesday of every month - starting June 20th if possible, 08:30 - 12:30
  • Commitment: 1 year
  • Location: Nanaimo Regional General Hospital

Reimbursement

  • Mileage expenses to attend in-person meetings at NRGH will be reimbursed
  • Morning refreshments (coffee/tea) will be provided

Background

Starting in June 2017, the Nanaimo Workplace Culture Committee (NWCC) was formed as a collection of employees, physicians, and patient advisor volunteers from Nanaimo Regional General Hospital (NRGH), Nanaimo and Oceanside Communities. We have a desire to improve the work experience for everyone and to enhance the care we provide. Membership is comprised of 15-22 members from a wide range of disciplines, services and programs. In terms of sharing outcomes of this initiative, a one-year handover of leaving members to new members will occur, including reflection and celebration. As well, development of tracking / measurement and evaluation system for committee ideas, events, initiatives etc. is in development.
