Aim
The Ministry of Health and PHSA are seeking to understand the current experience of patients requiring an MRI in BC. We would like to invite patient partners to participate in a one-time focus group to discuss their experience with scheduling, attending and follow up from an MRI exam.

Level of Engagement
This opportunity is at the level of consult on the spectrum of engagement. The promise to you is that the health care partner will listen to and acknowledge your ideas and concerns, and provide feedback on how your input affected the decision.

Eligibility
Open to patient partners from across the province who:
• Have obtained an MRI or supported a person in scheduling and attending an MRI in the past 5 years in BC
• Are comfortable joining and participating in a virtual meeting via MS Teams

If you have a strong interest in this work but have not yet completed a PVN orientation and Patient Partner Commitments, are unsure if your experience is a good fit or feel another format of engagement would work better with your availability, please contact Cassy Mitchell.

Logistics
• Number of vacancies: 15
• Date and Time: Focus group sessions will be held on:
– Tuesday September 27, from 2-3.30pm
– Thursday September 29 from 10-11.30am
Please note you only need to attend one session.
• Location: Online participation via MS Teams
• Commitment: One-time

Reimbursement
No out of pocket expenses are anticipated for this engagement opportunity. However, if you meet the eligibility criteria, but have concerns about your ability to participate, please contact Cassy Mitchell cmitchell@bcpsqc.ca to see if support options are available. We are always seeking to better understand and reduce barriers to participation.

Background
The Ministry of Health and PHSA are seeking to understand the current MRI experience for all those involved in the process (i.e. Patients, Physicians, Technologists, Administrative Clerks, etc). This information will feed into a project to optimize the MRI process to improve clinician and patient experience.

The question I like to ask health care employees is ‘Who is this for?’ and ‘Do we have the right people at the table?’ As a health care employee, I see how easy it is to fall into doing for, rather than doing with patients. The voices of the patient, family and caregiver are essential to ensure the patient is central to the direction and focus of the work being done.
