Aim

The Ministry of Health has identified primary health care as priority. The community of Golden has been given the opportunity to influence the future planning of local primary health care in their area. The Golden family physicians, together with the East Kootenay Division of Family Practice, recognise the value of including community members and patients in health care planning and decision-making. This event will be an opportunity to highlight successes and identify gaps or needs in care. The community and patient perspectives will be included in future health care planning and decision-making as much as possible.

Level of Engagement

This opportunity is at the level of involve on the spectrum of engagement. The promise to you is that the health care partner will work with you to ensure that your ideas and concerns are reflected in recommendation and provide feedback on how your input affected the decision.

Eligibility

There will be opportunities for community members and patients to share their health care stories, experiences, and perspectives through small group discussions. We hope to understand each other's experiences through these shared stories. Each small group will be moderated by a facilitator. Comfort speaking in front of groups is an asset. If you have a strong interest in this work but have not yet completed a PVN orientation and volunteer agreement, are unsure if your experience is a good fit or feel another format of engagement would work better with your availability, please contact the engagement leader directly.

Where those of us in the room may have debated policy or wording, patient voices made sure patients were top of mind. And as a result, significant improvements were made to simplify something that was otherwise complex. Patient voices at the table bring us back to reality in terms of what we are trying to achieve.
