We are seeking a patient/caregiver partner to join our research advisory committee focused on improving licensure processes for internationally educated nurses (IENs) in Canada. This project is a partnership between academic, health, and regulatory organizations, aiming to make licensure faster, fairer and more accessible.

As a member of our advisory committee, you’ll share your experience and perspectives as a patient, caregiver, or someone who interacts with Canada’s healthcare system. You’ll join virtual meetings to discuss the effects of licensure reforms on the public, review and comment on research findings and recommendations, and help ensure the project remains sensitive to the needs of diverse communities.

There will be approximately 4 virtual meetings (1-2 hours each) per year, plus 2-4 hours of preparation per meeting. This project is funded for 3 years, and we would welcome your participation for the whole term if possible. Compensation will follow CIHR (the research funder) guidelines, including $40/hour for meetings and preparation. No travel is required. There may be opportunities to engage in other regulatory research projects as well.

Where those of us in the room may have debated policy or wording, patient voices made sure patients were top of mind. And as a result, significant improvements were made to simplify something that was otherwise complex. Patient voices at the table bring us back to reality in terms of what we are trying to achieve.
