Our team is looking to pilot outpatient dietitian-chef classes that combine nutrition education and cooking skills. In the past, Fraser Health has offered outpatient dietitian classes focused on solely on nutrition education. While these classes increase nutrition knowledge, they do not address cooking skills that help put nutrition knowledge into action. We have access to a national project fund that will allow us to test out outpatient dietitian-chef classes. We are seeking patient partners to help develop the classes and evaluation materials.

We will be meeting once a month between April and December 2025 as a working group to develop and launch these classes in the fall. Meetings are expected to take one hour and will be over Microsoft Teams. Patient partners will have the option of receiving a small gift of appreciation for their time on the working group.

Where those of us in the room may have debated policy or wording, patient voices made sure patients were top of mind. And as a result, significant improvements were made to simplify something that was otherwise complex. Patient voices at the table bring us back to reality in terms of what we are trying to achieve.
