The Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Accessibility (IDEA) team at Northern Health is forming an Accessibility Committee to support the development of our accessibility plan — and we’re inviting patient partners to be part of this important work!

Why this matters:

Under the Accessible BC Act, public sector organizations must establish an accessibility committee to:
Identify barriers that individuals may face when interacting with the organization
Provide guidance on how to remove and prevent those barriers
This is a meaningful opportunity to help shape a more inclusive and accessible Northern Health — for patients, families, and the communities we serve.

Who we’re looking for:
We’re seeking patient partners who are:

Passionate about accessibility and inclusion
Interested in identifying and addressing barriers across the health system
Ready to be champions for positive change
Whether you bring lived experience, professional expertise, or a strong interest in accessibility, your voice is valued.

Time commitment: One meeting per month (approx. 2 hours)

Eligibility: Lived experience with a disability and/or professional experience in accessibility are assets

The bottom line is because we’re caring for patients. People who know best are those who are receiving the care so it makes logical sense that we would consult with them about their experiences. By connecting with PVN we have been able to educate our teams about the value of patient partners and how important their perspective is in our services.
