The North Island Hospital campuses in Campbell River and the Comox Valley will be opening intensive outpatient rehabilitation programs at each site in the Fall of 2024. The aim of an Intensive Outpatient Rehabilitation program is to provide Occupational Therapy (OT), Physiotherapy (PT) and Speech-Language Therapy (SLP) services to facilitate earlier discharge from the hospital and still maintain the same frequency and intensity of rehabilitation in both communities. Some examples of clients that would attend this program would be those recovering from a stroke, amputation, or life changing illness or injury. We are currently in the planning and development stage of the program and we are looking to have patient perspective on experiences to help shape the program. Currently the working group is meeting weekly, virtually by Microsoft Teams.

The bottom line is because we’re caring for patients. People who know best are those who are receiving the care so it makes logical sense that we would consult with them about their experiences. By connecting with PVN we have been able to educate our teams about the value of patient partners and how important their perspective is in our services.
