The New Westminster Community Health team is planning a series of bi-monthly forums to support the essential care partners of people awaiting a new home in Long-Term Care (LTC). These interactive forums will cover a variety of topics, including the navigation of LTC waitlists and how to access resources. The Community Health team is seeking 2-4 family partners to inform the forum content and design.

These contributions will include participation in virtual (or in-person) planning sessions where family partners will draw on their lived experience and assist with the identification of gaps in the system and opportunities to strengthen the navigation of the LTC waitlist.

This engagement opportunity will include 3-5 meetings held between Feb 2026-June 2026.
The meeting dates and times will be planned collaboratively with each family partner candidate.

The question I like to ask health care employees is ‘Who is this for?’ and ‘Do we have the right people at the table?’ As a health care employee, I see how easy it is to fall into doing for, rather than doing with patients. The voices of the patient, family and caregiver are essential to ensure the patient is central to the direction and focus of the work being done.
