The city of Surrey is one of the fastest-growing municipalities served by Fraser Health with a population of over 500,000 residents. The new Surrey Hospital & Cancer Centre is part of Fraser Health’s commitment across the region to modernize our health care network, build capacity and improve timely access to quality, patient-centred care closer to home. Surrey’s new hospital will include inpatient beds, an emergency department, operating rooms, laboratory and diagnostic services, outpatient services and cancer services.

Patient and Family Advisory Councils offer patient partners the opportunity to meet regularly with Fraser Health leaders to promote and advance person-centred care and improve healthcare quality, safety, and experience.

The New Surrey Hospital BC Cancer Patient and Family Advisory Council has supported service delivery planning, patient flows, interior and landscape design. Recent activities include in-person meetings at the construction site to provide feedback on sample, mock-up, spaces for specific care areas such as inpatient room, patient check-in, and exam rooms.

Share your experiences and ideas with leaders to make sure your perspective is considered in service planning, delivery, and evaluation. Fraser Health values meaningful dialogue with the
people they serve to support the transformation of healthcare.

The council meets virtually every other month for 2 hours with a break during the summer and December. Some in-person meetings also occur at the New Surrey Hospital BC Cancer Centre
Site (18050 James Hill Drive; Surrey).

Where those of us in the room may have debated policy or wording, patient voices made sure patients were top of mind. And as a result, significant improvements were made to simplify something that was otherwise complex. Patient voices at the table bring us back to reality in terms of what we are trying to achieve.
