We are looking for Indigenous folks to join our group from across Turtle Island who have (or their family members) accessed medical care in an emergency department.

We are creating a document that outlines recommendations to take towards the eradication of Indigenous Specific Racism in Emergency Departments. It will be designed to be used by all levels of emergency providers (bedside, leadership, administration, etc.) and will be published by the Canadian Association of Emergency Physicians (CAEP).

We are looking for Indigenous folks to collaborate as group members along with emergency providers. This is not a research project, and you will not be asked to share any medical information. Lived experience and other expertise are essential to this project being successful. You will participate in several group meetings where recommendations are being discussed in order to come to group consensus on what is important to include in the final document.

Your expertise will directly shape a document that all emergency providers can use to support the eradication of Indigenous Specific Racism. Financial compensation will also be provided for your time and contribution.

Benefits to group members
Your participation is crucial to the success of this project. CAEP is the national voice for emergency physicians, and this document has the potential to make significant positive change towards the eradication of Indigenous Specific Racism in the Emergency Department.

Recognition
Group members will be offered recognition as authors or collaborators on the final project. This will be discussed at the initial meeting and will depend on the level of group member engagement with the project.

Members who participate in good faith in most meetings will receive an honorarium of $2,000. We recognize that attendance may not always be possible, and we are committed to providing alternative ways to contribute, including written input, phone conversations, verbal feedback, or discussions with another group member. It is estimated that this project will take 20 hours of your time.

Knowledge sharing
There will be space for 1 to 2 group members to attend the CAEP National Conference in 2027 (Halifax) with travel/accommodations supported. Group members will be chosen based on project engagement, travel feasibility and financial feasibility.
